A Tory budget for the rich

Updated: Oct 23, 2022

This cruel budget will leave the rich richer and struggling families in Wakefield feeling angry and utterly betrayed by this Tory government.

The Chancellor is recklessly gambling the mortgages and finances of every family in the country to keep the Tory party happy.

The measures announced will do very little to help ordinary working families in Wakefield to make ends meet - as the cost of living continues to soar out of control.

To rub salt into the wounds, the Tories have delivered a massive tax cut to the wealthiest by abolishing the top rate of income tax. And as families continue join the ever-growing queues at foodbanks, they are gleefully lifting the cap on bankers’ bonuses. Basically, the richer you are the better you'll do. It’s tax cuts for the rich at the expense of ordinary working people.

12 years of Tory government have left us with lower growth, lower investment, lower productivity, and now - the lowest consumer confidence since records began. The only things that are going up are our bills, inflation, interest rates and bankers’ bonuses.

Nobody voted for this. As your Member of Parliament I will work tirelessly with my Labour colleagues to hold this Government to account and support our communities through this cost of living crisis.
