Ask for help

Our casework service is supported by two dedicated members of staff. We’re a small team but we work really hard to support as many people as possible, as quickly as possible.

Because we receive so many requests for assistance we sometimes have to prioritise urgent cases first. We'll also prioritise personal emails over any automated campaign emails.

Before you get in touch it's important that you know there is a strict Parliamentary protocol which prevents me from intervening on behalf of another MP’s constituents.

So please double check that you live in the Wakefield and Rothwell constituency and that I am your Member of Parliament. You can do this by entering your postcode here.

How we can help?

We can help constituents with the following issues:

Tax problems involving the HM Revenue and Customs Department
Welfare issues dealt with by the Department for Work and Pensions such as benefits, tax credits and state pensions
Issues handled by the Home Office such as immigration and passports
Issues relating to the Department of Health and Social Care such as concerns about hospitals or access to treatment
Any issues arising from any other government departments
Issues with utility companies
Consumer issues

We can support constituents by:

Writing to the Minister with responsibility for the department concerned
Asking an official for an explanation of why a decision has been made
Asking for a decision to be reviewed

So that we can help, you will need to:

Provide your full name
Provide your full postal address including post code
Provide a contact telephone number and an email address if you have one
Provide your national insurance number
Include scans / copies of any supporting documents (please do not enclose originals)

We will contact you to let you know what action Simon has taken and to advise you of the outcome of our enquiries. If you continue to be unhappy with a decision or issues raised, you may be able to refer your case to the relevant Ombudsman. We will include information on any further action you can take when we contact you.

Help with council issues

Issues relating to services provided by the Local Authority, Wakefield Council and Leeds City Council need to be raised with the relevant council department or your local councillor in the first instance.

This includes:

Housing and council tax
Anti-social behaviour
Highways and roads
Planning
Bins and littering
School placements
Adults' and children’s social services
