Holding Train Operators to Account

As someone who commutes weeklyby train, I know all too well the frustration of delayed or cancelled services. That’s why I’m pleased to welcome the new move to publish train station performance data at over 1,700 stations across England—including Wakefield Westgate, Kirkgate, and Outwood.

For too long, passengers have been left in the dark about the reliability of their local services. Now, thanks to this new initiative, real-time data on delays and cancellations will be clearly displayed on digital boards at larger stations, and accessible via QR codes at smaller ones. This is a big step forward in transparency and accountability.
I regularly hear from constituents who rely on our rail network to get to work, school, and visit loved ones. They deserve better—and they deserve to know when services are falling short. This new system means operators can no longer hide behind vague excuses. The data will speak for itself, and I’ll be using it to continue pressing for the improvements our community needs.
This is just one part of a broader push for rail reform, and I’ll keep working to ensure Wakefield passengers get the reliable, affordable, and efficient service they deserve.
