Break-ins and retail crime in Outwood

I’ve been really concerned to hear about a recent rise in break-ins and retail crime affecting businesses along Leeds Road in Outwood. These incidents are not only distressing for business owners and staff, but they also impact the wider community that relies on these local shops and services.

To better understand the situation and offer support, I recently joined Cllr Lynn Masterman (Stanley and Outwood East) and officers from West Yorkshire Police for a walkabout in the area. We spoke directly with business owners to hear their concerns, learn more about the challenges they’re facing, and discuss practical steps to improve safety and security.

We’re working in close partnership with the police, local councillors, and the council to explore what more can be done — from improving lighting and CCTV coverage to increasing police visibility and supporting crime prevention initiatives.

Our local businesses are the heart of our community, and they deserve to feel safe and supported. I’ll continue to work with all partners to ensure we’re doing everything possible to protect them.

If you’re a business owner in the area and have been affected, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
