I'm delighted to welcome the Government’s announcement of 700,000 additional urgent and emergency dental appointments, with over 32,000 of those allocated to West Yorkshire. This is a vital step forward in tackling the dental crisis that has affected so many people in our community.
Far too many constituents have told me about the difficulties they've faced in accessing NHS dental care—more than half of patients who tried in the last two years were unable to get an appointment. That’s simply not good enough.
Tooth decay remains the leading cause of hospital admissions for children aged five to nine, and it’s clear that urgent action has been needed for some time. Since being elected in 2022, I’ve campaigned hard to fix this broken system, and I’m proud to see progress being made.
This announcement is a clear sign that the Labour Government is delivering on its promises. Through our Plan for Change, we’re not just repairing NHS dentistry—we’re building a system that’s fit for the future.
This is a win for Wakefield & Rothwell

, and I’ll continue working to ensure everyone in our community can access the care they need and deserve.
