I’m pleased to welcome a major step forward in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour across Wakefield. Thanks to a new partnership between Wakefield Council, West Yorkshire Police, and local leaders, we’re seeing a real boost in neighbourhood policing—with 11 new officers now patrolling our town centres.

This means more visible patrols, seven days a week, in the places where people live, work and shop. It’s part of a wider crackdown that includes extra enforcement officers, a review of Public Space Protection Orders, and stronger powers to deal with issues like aggressive begging, substance misuse, and anti-social gatherings.

As your MP, I’ve been clear that people deserve to feel safe in their communities. That’s why I’m proud to support this initiative and the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee—ensuring that local policing is properly resourced and focused on prevention, not just response.

We’re already seeing results, with 32 criminal behaviour orders, 164 fixed penalty notices, and four PSPOs issued in the last year alone. But this is just the beginning. I’ll keep working with our local police and council to make sure we continue to build safer, stronger communities for everyone.
