Retail crime roundtable

Pleased to join colleagues from Wakefield BID and city centre businesses for a roundtable at WX Wakefield to discuss retail crime. I know this has a huge impact on businesses and shoppers across Wakefield & Rothwell.

There's a lot to do, but I'm proud that Labour are already cracking down on those causing havoc on our high streets by introducing Respect Orders, ensuring that persistent offenders of antisocial behaviour are banned from public areas where they are causing harm to our communities.

We are also making assaults against retail workers a new stand-alone offence, which has been called for over the last decade, and we’ll scrap the Tories’ ridiculous £200 limit for “low value” thefts to ensure no offenders get away with impunity.

Our businesses, retail workers and shoppers need to feel safe at all times on our high streets. We're working hard to make that happen.
