Today I met with Wakefield Council’s “Shared Lives” group for a coffee morning. I believe it is vital to listen to the voices of carers and service users to adjust and improve our care system.

Shared Lives is a service for those aged 17 and over who have a disability but wish to live independently within the community with the support of a carer. Some of these disabilities include: dementia, learning disabilities, older people, and mental health issues.

The role is “a bit like fostering - for adults”. With short-term and long-term placements available you can also become a carer, no experience needed.
