For months, I’ve listened - really listened to the voices of Wakefield and Rothwell, engaging with local people on the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill.
After careful thought and heartfelt conversations, I have now reached my final decision on how I will vote in the House of Commons today.
There have been powerful arguments on both sides of this deeply emotive debate.
I want to thank everyone who reached out to me to share your views, fears and deeply personal, and at times harrowing experiences. These conversations have moved me profoundly and shaped the decision I make today.
Representing the people of Wakefield and Rothwell in Parliament is an honour and privilege, and with that privilege comes immense responsibility.
I have come to the conclusion that Parliament must act.
We cannot ignore the injustices embedded in the current system which forces too many terminally ill people to face unbearable deaths without the dignity and compassion they deserve.
We must offer a safe, humane, and carefully regulated choice to those who seek control over how their final chapter is written.
I believe this Bill offers a rigorous, practical, and humane path forward and I will vote in support of it today. ,
